 | | "I've always considered myself a filmmaker who writes stuff for himself to do." . | | | Pick up a camera. Shoot something. No matter how small, no matter how cheesy, no matter whether your friends and your sister star in it. Put your name on it as director. Now you're a director. Everything after that you're just negotiating your budget and your fee.. | I think cinema, movies, and magic have always been closely associated. The very earliest people who made film were magicians.
The funniest thing is that all the things every director goes through, I thought I could shortcut, but there was no getting around those issues.
In England, I'm a horror movie director. In Germany, I'm a filmmaker. In the US, I'm a bum.
Every great film should seem new every time you see it.
If there's specific resistance to women making movies, I just choose to ignore that as an obstacle for two reasons: I can't change my gender, and I refuse to stop making movies.
Well, directing is doing the key drawings, not the key animation, mind you.

My films are an extension of my poetry, using the white screen like the white page to be filled with images. JOAN CHENActing for me is not a bad habit like smoking that I must make an effort to quit. I love acting; I love directing. JOHN FORDAnybody can direct a picture once they know the fundamentals. Directing is not a mystery, it's not an art. The main thing about directing is: photograph the people's eyes. A film is never really good unless the camera is an eye in the head of a poet KENNETH TYNAN
The greatest films are those which show how society shapes man. The greatest plays are those which show how man shapes society. JORG AMEEN Instead of hiring a babysitter, my parents just dropped me off at a movie theater. FEDERICO FELLINI Cinema is an old whore, like circus and variety, who knows how to give many kinds of pleasure. Besides, you can`t teach old fleas new dogs. ALFRED HITCHCOCK"For me, the cinema is not a slice of life, but a piece of cake." LOUIS MALLE
"Each movie is a piece of life, a different adventure. It expresses my interest of the moment, somewhat like a love affair finally. In both cases, I only trust love at first sight." JEAN LUC GODARD "Cinema is the most beautiful fraud in the world." INGMAR BERGMAN
"The cinema is not a craft. It is an art. It does not mean team-work. One is always alone; on the set as before the blank page. And for Bergman, to be alone means to ask questions. And to make films means to answer them. Nothing could be more classically romantic."
